Hallo rvanderwindt,
my english is not good, so i will answer in German.

I got this information from the Archives of Schiedam. On 03-02-1748 Jan Leonhard Mambers became a citizen of the city Schiedam in The Netherlands. It was mentioned that he was born in "Weggene ? a/d Donau". I don't have images of this because the info came from microfiches. (didn't see them myself)Kommentar

I wonder if there are records in Germany that would mention that he would move to the Netherlands. I am not familiar with the German archives.Kommentar

Hello,
the easiest way to solve this problem is, that you go to this archive, and have a look on the original document. If you are living in the Nederlands.
If you have done so, we will pleased to try again to idenficate his place of origin (place of birth).
In the moment the inconsistency between the statements "near Frankfurt" and "near the Donau" (the river) are unsolvable.
Why did they not made a copy for you?

Back then, I send them an email after I found the name of Jan Leonhard Mambers on the archive site. The website was referring to some documents in the archive. An employee of the archives didn't want me to travel all the way for nothing, so had a quick look in the "In and Out" index. There she found his place of birth. I am not sure if the document actually said "Weggene a/d Donau or that it was her interpretation.Hello,

Hello, please have a look at the posting No. 16: if he was born between 1720-1747 he definitly could not have been died in 1842! So he would be 100-120 years old!!!
Something wrong in the calculations.....
Kind regards

You are correct. His son died in 1842. In his death record it was mentioned that his father passed away in East-India, so in one archive a reference was made to this date.Kommentar

Gruss
