    Hello everyone,

I got a tip from someone that this is the place to ask about certain places and that it was okay to do this in English. For some time now I have been trying to find out more information about a German ancestor of mine. Not alot of information is known about him, but in two different documents, his place of birth (or at least previous home town) is mentioned.

So far it seems like both places don't exist or have been written wrong. They are Werkenheim bei Frankfurt / Weggene (?) a/d Donau. I hope someone can help me find out the correct place(s)!

The name of the ancestor is Jan Leonhard (Johannes Leonardus) Mambers. In later years, the name changed to Mampers. There's a chance that the last name before Mambers was slightly different too.

      Guten Abend,
a similiar name would be Berkersheim.

      Bergen-Enkheim sounds similiar, too:

The one you found is a grandson of the one I'm looking for. Named after his grandfather.

Jan Leonhard Mambers married in 1747 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. So I am gonna assume he was born between 1720-1727 somewhere in Germany. He seem to have died in 1842 in Dutch East-India

I remember seeing the following suggestion once. I don't know where the person saw this, but he thoughts that this might have been a possibility as well:

                          Joannes Mompers, baptized 19-2-1718 Meckenheim

                          Possible parents:
                          Nicolass Mompers
                          Elisabeth Caspars

                            OK. That is possible.

It is "near Frankfurt", if you see it from the Nederlands
