[gelöst] Was bedeutet Hospital im 18. Jahrhundert?

Jahr, aus dem der Begriff stammt:
Region, aus der der Begriff stammt:

I have an ancestor whose occupation was listed as Hospitalmeistari in Friedrichroda, Thüringen, in the 1700s. What exactly was a hospital then? What population did it serve?

      Hi Donald:

Back then a hospital was generally what we might call a hospice, or a home for the aged, sick, and poor - in other words, a place where the community/municipality was hospitable to those who could not take care of themselves.
