Hallo, ich bin ein Neuling im Forum. Hoffe aber, dass mir vielleicht jemand helfen kann. Ich habe altes foto's von meinem großvater.
Die zwei Foto's (im Anhang) müsste in Lager in sommer 1944 in Berlin oder Spandau regio aufgenommen worden sein, weiß es aber nicht genau.
Meine Fragen:
Kann jemand, den genauen Ort identifizieren? Die Gebäude im Hintergrund konnte ein fabrik, gymnasium etc sein).

The german text above is not my own, i’m from Holland. My grandfather was sent to Berlin in 1943. I would really appreciate if someone can say something about the location on the picture in English language (or basic german is also fine :-)

handelt es sich bei deinem Großvater um einen Kriegsgefangenen?

Hier sieht man eine Berliner Baracke die von der Bauart ziemlich identisch wirkt - oberstes Bild. Vielleicht kann man damit irgendwie weiterkommen.

Thank you very much, sorry my german is not really good. Yes the men on the picture are probably all forced labour workers from Holland. I'm afraid there were thousands identical wooden "barackenlager" in Berlin area those days. But i hope the buildings on the background might give someone an idea..

Hello Anna, thank you. The men on the picture are probably all around 18 to 22 years or something. Young men, sent to Berlin to work. I'm not sure what my grandfather had to do for work. However i do know he was in the Spandauer area for some time. I also know he, and few other dutch men were able to do sports/football. Not sure if this picure was taken in Spandau or somewhere else in Berlin district. I hope to find out. Thanks and best regards.

diese Bauart war Standart. Habe Bilder vom gleichen Typ hier bei uns die erst als Lager des RAD, als für Kriegsgefangenen-u. Zwangsarbeiter, dann als Unterkünfte für die britischen Transporteinheiten (Berlin-Blockade) und im Anschluß daran als Behelfsunterkünfte für Flüchtlinge benutzt wurden. Die letzten sind so ca. 1965 abgerissen worden. Die Aufnahmen können also überall entstanden sein.

Moin, wie Robbedoes bereits eingangs erwähnt, nur über das Gebäude im Hintergrund läßt sich da was machen. Es hat eine markante Fassade und einen Dachreiter. Sieht also nach öffentlichem Gebäude aus.

Hello Robbedoes,

as Deisterjäger mentioned, the barracks are to stereotypical to be identified easily. But we still have the buildings in the background. Berlijn Barak 1944-1.jpg seems to me more fruitful than the other one: the eye-catching gable is part of typical Berlin apartment buildings around 1900. It is not part of a public building. The facades of these apartment buildings always face to the street.
The people pictured seem to do some morning exercises and the shadows fall to the left. This can lead to several assumptions. First: the pic is shot looking in about northern direction. Second: The facade (showing to the street) must be on a northern side of a street that stretches roughly from East to West. Third: As we can see the facade on a northern side of a street, there cannot be a house on the southern side.

Berlijn Barak 1944-4.jpg shows a chimney in the distance.

In case these pics are really taken in Berlin-Spandau, you have to look for a street running predominantly from East to West, where there were no buildings on the southern side of the street in 1944 and where you have a factory or the like in the North. I don't think houses on the southern side of the street have been bombed, but it cannot be excluded.

There is, for instance, a street that could fit: Ruhlebener Straße 13597 Berlin. (Number 12 looks a little like the house with the prominent gable). To the North there were a lot of factories, to the South were meadows - a possible site for the barracks. Not far away, but to the North, was a labour camp.

I wish you luck for further research!

ich habs mal rasch ein wenig zusammengefummelt, so dass man sich besser ein Bild der Gegend machen kann (besonders des Hintergrundes). Vielleicht hilfts ja.
Das rechte Haus scheint ein Eckhaus zu sein. Ruhlebener Str. Ecke Pichelswerder Str. wäre das dann. In Streetview sehen die Häuser ja ähnlich aus. Wegen Verpixelung und Bäumen schwer zu sagen.
In GoggleEarth ist das Luftbild von 1953 leider etwas unscharf.

I also received some interesting private messages, which pointed me at a lot more angles. So i have to investigate a lot. The chimney, maybe from a factory or brauerei...The "dachreiter", fassaden.
