      Hello HeritageHunter.

I do not know anything about your Family (except that Kraus is still a common name in Ginseldorf), but i come from a village next to Ginseldorf (Schönbach). If you like, i can take pictures for you. I also ordered the Ginseldorf-chronicle in our university-library which was published on the occasion of the 750-year-anniversary. From my experience in these chronicles are often chapters about emigrants. If Joseph Kraus really was mayor, he will be named in this chronicle.

I will tell you more, when the book has arrived...

        Hello Ditthardt

I thank you! We still know so little about the family that I wouldn't know what places are good for pictures. The only place I can think of I have now found modern pictures of online (the St. John the Baptist church --where I guess they went to church).

I see in my interview notes that Peter was head of the Meat Cutter's Organization, but I'm not sure if that organization will be in this Chronicle.

        Thank you again for help!

        Sincerely,

        Heath Vogel

          Hello Heath,
The following text was produced using Google translator and I hope that it is understandable.
There is the possibility of online civil status documents (low register) of Ginseldorf view . http://www.lagis-hessen.de/de/subjects/gsearch/page/1/sn/hadis?q=%2Anebenregister&fq[]=landkreis:Marburg-Biedenkopf&fq[]=ort:Bauerbach

Ginseldorf was performed in the documentation of Bauerbach. At the end of the book there is a name index. As already written, Kraus is a common name.
With a quick inspection I found in the book of death: http://dfg-viewer.de/demo/viewer/?set%5Bimage%5D=9&set%5Bzoom%5D=default&set%5Bdebu g%5D=0&set%5Bdouble%5D=0&set%5Bmets%5D=http%3A%2F% 2Fdigitalisate.hadis.hessen.de%2Fhstam%2F915%2F645 .xml I think that might be your ancestor.
I also found the wife of Christopher, but she is not called Charlotte Elizabeth here she is called Scholastica Elizabeth http://dfg-viewer.de/demo/viewer/?set%5Bimage%5D=4&set%5Bzoom%5D=default&set%5Bdebu g%5D=0&set%5Bdouble%5D=0&set%5Bmets%5D=http%3A%2F% 2Fdigitalisate.hadis.hessen.de%2Fhstam%2F915%2F617 .xml
Maybe they called himself Charlotte or the documents were translated incorrectly.
Maybe you'll find more information to your ancestors.
          I hope I could help a little

          Regards

          Kirsten

              Hello Heath,
Unfortunately, records for Bauerbach-Ginseldorf at lagis start in 1883. So you will not find any birth records of Peter nor of his brother or sisters.
Browsing the pages I have found the marriage record of his older brother Peter Joseph (born Nov 19th 1868 Ginseldorf) with Maria Elisabetha Zinser (born July 1st 1871 Stausebach) as well as their death records .

I have seen no marriages of the sisters.

                Hello Heath,

the chronicle is very detailed, but it is manly dealing with the 20th century. I got one picture for you from 1906 showing the choral society with christof Krauss and Josef Peter.
the two documents are dealing with taxes and property from 1835. they are extracted from the land register known as "Katastervorbeschreibung", wich was conducted under the landgrave of Hessen-Kassel to improve his tax-income.
The documents are from the Archive Marburg.
Given the information from Kitage, that father of Christof was Peter Kraus you will find two individuals with this Name. One in House 28 with a father named Adam, the other in Nr. 29 with a father called Andreas. These houses are marked in a drawing from 1810. Nr. 28 with the name Adam Krauss, Nr. 29 with the Name Kasper Krauss (probably the Father of Andreas mentioned in the documents from 1835). There is another Kraus (Georg) at the bottom in House 20.

Thats all I got so far, If you want these pictures in a better quality, send me a massage with your Email.

                regards, Bastian

                PS:
1.) There is a chapter about emigrants to the US, but only within the years 1850-1869 and none of them was a Krauss or Reith.
2.) There is as far as I can see no chapter about the Mayors.

                    Hello Ramanujan!

Yes I believe that is the correct family! We know there were marriages with the Zinser family and also one of the Krauss sisters married a Zinser we believe and had a son named Frank Zinser that also moved to St. Louis, MO, USA. This Frank Zinser married a woman named Margaret from Austria (but perhaps that marriage was in the US?). Another one of Peter Pious' sisters married a Kramer, but that is all we know about that other than their names.

This was a great help! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

                      Also...

Here is the only picture we have from Germany of the old family. This is Peter Pious Kraus (b. 5 Jun 1880 in Ginseldforf)'s sister Elizabeth and her husband. They sent this picture to him in the mail...

Then this is a picture of the church in town that also came in the mail to Peter from his old hometown and it was found in the old photo album after he passed away...

                      Thanks for looking!

Eine großzügige "internet Freund" hat mich mit etwas mehr Informationen zu dieser Familie geholfen.

Christoph Kraus und seine Frau Elisabetha Scholastika Ried (oder Rieth) hatte 7 Kinder:

                        1) Maria Katharina (* 20. Dezember 1865)
                        2) Katharina Benedicta (4. März 1867)
                        3) Peter Joseph, Bürgermeister von Ginseldorf 1919 bis 1924.
                        5) Josephine (13. Dezember 1873)
                        6) Maria Elisabetha (18. März, 1876)
                        7) Peter Pius (5. Juni 1880)

Sie lebten in Haus Nr. 29 in Ginseldorf.

                        Christoph Kraus * 1. Dezember 1841 - 8. April 1916
Sein Vater ist Peter Kraus, sein Großvater ist Andreas Kraus, sein Urgroßvater ist Johannes Kaspar Kraus, sein Ur-Ur-Großvater Johannes Heinrich Kraus.

                          Hello Heath,

in addition to the information provided by your „internet Freund“ I have the following, extracted from
                          https://familysearch.org/recapi/sord...901?cc=1768560:

Andreas Kraus, b. about 1777 was married Anna Maria Groß , daughter of Johann Henrich Groß (d. 19.1.1809 in “Haus No 29” in Ginseldorf, 56 years old) . You can find two bills of sale of Andreas among the links including his signature

Andreas and Anna Maria had at least two children:
                          - Peter, b. 10.10.1809, godfathers Adam Kraus (Andreas’ brother) and Johannes Rühl
                          - Andreas, b. 29.11.1811, godfathers Johann Peter Fach and Johannes Rühl

Johannes Kaspar Kraus (father of Adam and Andreas Kraus) d. 9.1.1809 in “Haus No 29” in Ginseldorf, 67 years old

Adam Kraus, b. about 1771 dies about 1824. From this time (10.7.1824) we have the marriage contract of his son:
Peter Kraus and Maria Anna Preiß, daughter of Johannes Preiß of Stausebach, a descendant of Caspar Preiß (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspar_Preis)

Perhaps another brother ist Caspar Kraus, whose wife Elisabetha gives birth to Maria Anna, baptized on 20.1.1809.

                          Regards,
                          Ramanujan

Thank you again for your help. This is wonderful to be able to see our ancestor's signature. I could not get the link to familysearch to work that you posted, but it gave me an idea. I will post some of the information you and others have shared on this family there. Here is the link to Christoph Kraus and Elisabetha Ried on family tree...

Also, thank you greatly for sharing the interesting information about Caspar Preis. Is there a tree or database online that connects him to Johannes father of Maria Anna (Pries) Kraus? Surely, that would go back into the past since he was an eyewitness to the 30 Years War. Fascinating. Thank you again so much for sharing this!
