I have a marraige entry where the Ort is noted "dorf Schweingrube" but the father is noted as "Krug Schweingrube".

What is the description or meaning of "Krug" in 1778. I tried google but not finding the real answer I think. Keeps saying a "Jug"

Krug really means jug, but it was also a synonym for a pub or tavern. I'm not sure what the original name of the place comes from, it could also be a "false friend" and have its origin in polish or a baltic language, maybe someone else knows this better than me.

In a lot of areas east of the river Elbe, where German and Slavic or Baltic influences are mixed, you often have this constellation: There is one place (Schweinegrube), departed in different sections. Like - just for exmaple, not all of them really exist in this case: Klein Schweinegrube, Groß Schweinegrube, Dorf Schweinegrube, Hof Schweinegrube, Ausbau Schweinegrube, Vorkwerk Schweinegrube and so on - and maybe Krug Schweinegrube was the part of this village, where the pub was or maybe where jugs were produced.

I'm not a linguist and not an expert on West Prussia either, but these are my thoughts on it.

2.) Krug-Schweingrube

Must have been a very "piggy" area, I see not far away "Schinkenland"!!!

I guess they named one side of the village as the Tavern side, therefore "Krug" and "Dorf" sides of the road.

Yes, I have traced the boundary of Krug Schweingrube, and marked in pink colour. The green arrow aims to the Krug building (tavern), I suppose.
