Dear Carl,

this is the letter's literal translation. Parts, however, cannot be translated that easily, so I paraphrased it. (empfehle dich und die Deinen ---lierally this means "the yours", meaning, the ones who belong to your family etc.)

But have a look yourself now:


Dear Son

herewith I send to you what you asked for
Me and your siblings are still healthy . Send my regards to your dearest wife and all her relatives.
I wish you luck and blessings and farewell -
I recommend you and "the yours" (the ones that belong to you) for the shelter of the Almighty.
