Hello everyone, I think it would be more effective to ask this on a german forum, (I couldn't find the right subforum)

I'm having a hard time reading the gestapo documents of Würzburg of what I think was an interrogation of my great grandfather Ignacy Wojtowicz, born 29 october 1917 in Chabowka/Rabka(-Zdroj), Poland.
I got these documents from the Arlson Archives, there are 25 pages split across 5 posts of mine due to the rules, of some pages i only need the important parts mentioning Ignacy.

It all seems to be in german language

Hello:

His own interrogation is on pp. 3-4 of the PDF. On pp. 5-6 are statements from other witnesses of an incident in a pub in which he was involved, as well as the statement by the policeman that Ignacy was arrested on 22 Jan 1942 after the incident. On p. 8 the local Gestapo head orders that Ignacy be released after being sharply warned about the consequences if there should be another incident; on p. 11 Ignacy acknowledges having received this warning on 10 Feb 1942. The remaining documents are merely cross-references to these files.

Thus, the important and interesting part to be transcribed is on pp. 3-4.

Hello Giovanni,

his name is written "Ignatz Woydowicz", birth place is "Habuwka"(?). The interrogation was in Kissingen 22 Jan 1942. Your great grandfather was farm worker, born 17 Oct 1917. It is hard work to translate the whole 25 pages.

Der Person: Ich habe mich zur Arbeit nach Deutschland freiwillig ge-
meldet. Seit 15.2.1940 bin ich in Deutschland in Arbeit eingesetzt.
Seit dieser Zeit bin ich bei dem Bauern Nikolaus Weberbauer in Biebel-
ried beschäftigt. Meine Eltern sind in Habuwska, Kr. Nowetak [?] Reg.Bez.
Krakau, Nr. 108 wohnhaft. Ich bin in Habuwka beheimatet. Mein Vater besitzt
ein kleines landwirtschaftliches Anwesen und hilft bei größeren Bauern
mit. Ich habe noch zwei Brüder im Alter von 21 und 17 Jahren. Der Bruder
von 21 Jahren arbeitet in einer Holzfabrik in Nowsize, der 17 jährige
Bruder ist ebenfalls in der Holzfabrik beschäftigt. Meine 19 jährige
Schwester ist zu Hause bei der Mutter. Bevor ich nach Deutschland kam,
war ich in meiner Heimat zwei Jahre in einer Saline und einige Jahre
am Straßenbau beschäftigt. Ich habe mich in Polen politisch nicht betä-
tigt. Mein Monatslohn bei Weberbauer beträgt 26,50 RM. den Monat. Ich bin
polnischer Staatsangehöriger.

Zur Sache: Am 18. Jan. 1942 habe ich und die anderen Polen, welche in Bie-
belried beschäftigt sind, von dem Bürgermeister in Biebelried die Geneh-
migung bekommen, daß wir in der Wirtschaft Brandmann in Biebelried ein
Glas Bier trinken könnten. Ich habe mich dann gegen 13 Uhr mit den an-
deren Polen, es waren vielleicht noch 10 Polen und drei Polinen, in der
Wirtschaft getroffen. Ich habe dort 2 Bier und 2 Schoppen Wein getrunken.
Ich wollte dann noch einen Schoppen Wein haben, aber die Wirtin gab mir
keinen mehr, sie sagte ich hätte genug getrunken. Außer den 2 Glas Bier
und den 2 Schoppen Wein habe ich noch 2 Zigarren und ein Zigarette be-
kommen, die Sachen habe ich auch sofort bezahlt. Ich habe mir dann mein
Taschenmesser aus der Tasche genommen, um meine Zigarre abzuschneiden,
als ich dies getan hatte, schob der mitanwesende Pole Stanislaus Kilbase [?]
das vor mir stehende Bier den Polinen zu. Ich sagte darauf dem Stanis-
laus, das ist mein Bier. Das Messer, welches ich noch in der Hand hatte,
nachdem ich mir die Zigarre abgeschnitten hatte, habe ich nicht gegen

Der Stanislaus fasste mich an meinem Rock und sagte ich soll mich set-
zen. Ich setzte mich jedoch nicht, sondern ging mit Stanislaus aus der
Wirtschaft hinaus. Auf dem Wege nach Hause, es war 15 Uhr hat mir der Po-
le Stanislaus das Messer abgenommen und mich in den Graben gestoßen, wo
ich liegen blieb. Der Pole Stanislaus ist dann zu Hause und die anderen
Polen, welche etwas später zu der Wirtschaft kamen, haben mich dann nach
Hause geführt. Ich habe mich in einen Eimer gebrochen, kurze Zeit ge-
schlagen und später das Vieh gefüttert. Ich gebe zu, daß ich angetrunken
war, habe aber keine Absicht gehabt, der [???] zu drohen, oder gar
zu stechen, war nur ärgerlich, weil das vor stehende Bier den Polinen zu-
geschoben wurde. Ich habe auch gewußt, daß man nicht mit dem Messer dro-
hen darf, denn das wir in meiner Heimat auch schwer bestraft.

The person: I have volunteered for work in Germany. I have been working in Germany since 15.02.1940. Since that time I have been employed by the farmer Nikolaus Weberbauer in Biebelried. My parents are in Habuwska, district Nowetak [?] Reg.Bez. Krakow, No. 108. I am a native of Habuwka. My father owns a small farm and helps out with larger farmers. I have two brothers aged 21 and 17. The brother 21 years old works in a timber factory in Nowsize, the 17 year old brother is also employed in the timber factory. My 19 year old sister is at home with her mother. Before I came to Germany, I worked for two years in a salt works in my home country and a few years in road construction. I wasn't politically active in Poland. My monthly wage at Weberbauer was RM 26.50 a month. I am a Polish citizen.

About the matter: On Jan. 18, 1942, I and the other Poles who were employed in Biebelried, received permission from the mayor of Biebelried that we could drink a glass of beer in the Brandmann pub in Biebelried. I then met up with the other Poles at around 1 pm., there were perhaps 10 male Poles and three female Poles, in the pub. I drank two beers and two pints of wine there. Then I wanted another pint of wine, but the landlady didn't give me any more, she said I'd had enough. Apart from the 2 glasses of beer and the 2 pints of wine, I also got 2 cigars and a cigarette.I paid for them straight away. I then took my pocket knife out of my pocket to cut off my cigar, When I had done this, the Pole Stanislaus Kilbase [?] passed the beer in front of me to the female Poles. I said to Stanislaus that this is my beer. The knife I still had in my hand, after I had cut off my cigar, I didn't point it at the landlady. I stood up and put the knife in my pocket. Stanislaus grabbed me by my cloth and told me to sit down. I didn't sit down, however, but walked out of the pub with Stanislaus. On the way home, it was 3 p.m., Stanislaus took the knife from me and pushed me into the ditch, where I was left lying there. The Pole Stanislaus then went home and the other Poles, who came to the pub a little later, led me home. I broke myself into a bucket,slept for a short time and later fed the cattle. I admit that I was drunk but I had no intention of threatening the [???] or even stabbing her, I was just annoyed because the beer in front of me was passed to the female Poles. I also knew that you are not allowed to threaten with a knife because that is also severely punished in my home country.
