    G'day Jan:

Carl Stemke beurlaubt M. von der Leibl. mit Jgfr. Christina Babbelin aus Paterswalde

    M. might be Musquetier (though elsewhere on this page it is abbreviated Msqtr or Msq), and I don't know what Leibl. refers to (perhaps the company personally commanded by the head of the regiment).

This is from the marriage register started in 1778 for what then was the Steinwehrsche Infanterie-Regiment, commanded 1776-1782 by Johann Christian Wilhelm von Steinwehr. This same infantry regiment (later numbered as Altpreußisches Regiment Nr. 14) was commanded 1795-1803 by Georg Friedrich Heinrich von Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen and thus was known then as the Prinz von Hohenlohisches Regiment (see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altpre..._No._14_(1806)). In other words, he was in the same regiment in 1789 (this marriage) and 1797 (baptism of his child).

Hello and many thanks for your detailed info Carl-Henry.

He is noted as a Musquetier on all the baptisms (4) that I could find, and also on one of his son's marriages. All noted as Lindendorf and Paterswalde (Kr.Wehlau) would you know where he would have been stationed/barracked in 1799-1803 and also at the time of his marriage as the earliest baptism I can find is 1799.

      Regards, Jan

        Hi Jan:

The regiment's main baracks were at Bartenstein (today's Bartoszyce in Poland), about 28 miles south-southwest of Paterswalde.
