Hi Ursula and Jurgen. I finally got the birth record from Iasi. Lovely handwriting but it makes it difficult to try to translate. I can however see the names Wolf Solomonica, Regina and Zalic :0) I will try to translate it all when I have the time. Hopefully there is a birth surname for regina but and first look I think maybe not. I wrote to my Great Aunt Eve and she was very happy at what we have found. She said a forbearer or Alexanders was meant to be the chief Rabbi for Bucharest and she set me the challenge to find out who :0) if it was someone on his mums side I guess I will have to scrutise the letter for another surname. Hope your both well. Regards from London. Corin
A Godfather? is, probably Jusob Ludaicer.
I think one name is Talic SOLOLMONICA, not Zalic Solomonica. but who is she?
You right Regina SOLOLMONICA is the mother, but perhaps no maidenname.
I found a pessenger Ludaicer to NY 1898.
Moses Ludaicer born at Yassy, Age: 21
Zalic is who we worked out to be the grandfather. The Z in romanian looks like it could be a t or even an f. The name has been translated in all 3 ways from what we have come across.
Well done on the transcribing of Ludaicer. it is all very hard to read.
I found this blog http://brotmanblog.wordpress.com/tag/moses-lieb/
There are posted scans of marriage and birth records from Iasi with transscriptions and translations Although the transscriptions are not done literrally, but in modern Romanian, the birth records are built up the same way. I do not dare giving a transscription of the Romanian text, but a translation of the most interesting parts is possible, without guarantee though:

How brilliant. I could only manage to transcribe a few words of little interest so hats of to you. Its lovely there is an address also. It is great to see the mums name and to have a copy of the original birth record. The handwriting and language makes it difficult but I'm liking the handwriting style. :0) I love how every time we find more info there is a little missing ~ like the mothers maiden name. haha
Regina SOLOMONICA death in Berlin 1895.
