Der zweite Sucheintrag über Gertrude Mary Wander (Description: My theory about why the wedding of Frank McGrath and Mary Wander was held in Rockville, Maryland. Excerpt: Frank McGrath and his first wife, Gertrude Mary Wander, were married in a Presbyterian Church in Rockville, Maryland. I'...) und der dritte über ihre ältere Schwester Clara Wander (Brief obituary in The Washington Post, published 14 March, 1975. Excerpt: LINDSAY, CLARA A. On March 12, 1975 beloved mother of John J. Lindsay and Mary M. Miller, grandmother of Julianna, Deb...) Text von oben.

Sollte mir jemand helfen können und mir die beiden Texte per Forumsbeitrag oder PN zuschicken können, wäre ich unheimlich dankbar!

    Vielen Dank und liebe Grüße,

    Marcel

    Hallo

Frank McGrath and his first wife, Gertrude Mary Wander, were married in a Presbyterian Church in Rockville, Maryland. I've been looking for some background information about that, and I think I've found it.

One of Frank's uncles was Henry C. McGrath. He married a woman named Annie Kilgour who was from the Rockville area. Annie's father ran a restaurant up that way. It might have been near Olney. There's a 1860 census form that places John and Harriet Kilgore (Annie's parents) in something called District 4 of Montgomery County, and says their Post Office was Rockville. It gives John's occupation as "Restaurant". Her brother, Clarence J. Kilgore, was living with Henry and Annie in 1910, according to that year's census.

It would have been easy to get a bunch of people from northeast D.C. out to Rockville in 1910 via the B&O Railroad.

Update: This theory is looking less likely. The Kilgours were indeed from the Rockville area, but they had all moved to the city by 1906. The restaurant was gone.

    LINDSAY, CLARA A.

On March 12, 1975 beloved mother of John J. Lindsay and Mary M. Miller, grandmother of Julianna, Deborah and Robert Miller. Friends may call at Gasch's Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, Md. on Friday from 2 to 9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Jerome's Catholic Church. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Washington, D.C. Prayers at the above Funeral Home on Friday at 7:30 pm.
