Search for Wilhelm Heinrich Dierksen 1859-1917

    Greetings from California.
I am a new member. This is a first post test. I hope this will work!
My great grandfather, Wilhelm Heinrich Dierksen, came from somewhere in the Uelzen District. He and his sweetheart, Catherine Kohlmeyer, emigrated in 1882 to New Albin, Iowa.
I have found records of her in "FAMILIIENKDE NIEDERSACHSEN Die Familien und Einwohner des Kirchspiels Hanstedt I". by Heinrich Porth . His books have a copyright.
Wilhelm may be listed in three other books by Porth:
Porth, Heinrich † / Behnke, Eberhard: Die Familien und Einwohner des Kirchspiels Ebstorf
Friesch, Gunda / Porth, Heinrich: Die Familien und Einwohner des Kirchspiels Himbergen
Porth, Heinrich: Die Familien und Einwohner des Kirchspiels Wriedel
All the books are from the Uelzen Museum. Does some one have access to the books?
I would be more than grateful to find his family.
    Thanks, Tony Korzun

Hello and welcome to the forum,
there is a familiy tree on Ancestry which contains several Dierksen people from Wettenbostel, near Uelzen, with pretty detailed life data (even if from the 1700s til the beginning of the 1800s). However, given that the place had just about 100 inhabitants - these people could be relatives of yours. And because of the detailed life data one could suspect, that Ancestry user knows about church books from that area. You could try to get in touch with him.

Thank you everyone for responding to the post. I will look into some of the suggestions.
I have information on William in the US. That is not a problem.
I am looking for his parents, siblings in Germany. He may be the father of Heinrich W Kohlmeyer. We found that in an entry of Heinrich Porth's family book for Hanstedt I. Catherine Kohlmeyer had a child in 1882 named Heinrich Kohlmeyer. The baby died in 1882, no father is listed. A friend found this entry in the reference section of the Salt Lake City, UT LDS Church library. William married Catherine when the settled in Iowa. I am at a dead end.
I found in GenWiki.org listings for other books by Porth mentioned before. Of the ten he wrote, the three I listed have Dierksen names in the index. The thought is William did not live far from Catherine in Germany. Those books are not in the US. They are in libraries in Berlin, Uelzen and other places in Germany. It could cost a few hundred dollars to order them. I could ask the Uelzen Museum to look for a fee, but the dollar to euro transfer fee is $45. I have no experience in international money orders.

            I do appreciate your interest
            Best regards, Anton 42

              Hi Anton 42:

Just a hint (from someone who also uses services of German institutions from the US): if you use a money transfer service like Wise or XE (add .com to each), you can transmit money directly to a German bank account for much less than $45.

              Regards
