Looking for the birth and baptism to John Frederick Holthusen 30 april 1840 in Hannover, Lower Saxon

    Dear forum and awesome helpers

I am looking for the birth and baptizm to John Frederick Holthusen . According to his site on Ancestry he was born 30 april 1840 i Hannover - Lower Saxony in Germany

    His site on Ancestry :

Can somebody find his birth and baptism i a churchbook for me so i can get the name also on his parents and where they live ?

I need a link to this church book .

He migrate to America , but i dont know when , but his wife was Louise Greschke born 24 september 1846 in Pomerania in Germany according to her site on ancestry

    Her site on ancestry :

Can somebody find her birth and baptizm for me in a church book so i can get her parents name and where they lived ?

I need a link to this church book too

Can somebody help me find their wedding in a church book if they got married in Germany ?

If not i will try to find it in american sources .

According to their site on ancestry - their first child was born in Minnesota 5 october 1879 - so their migration must have been before this .

Is there possible to find Louise Greschke's emigration notice in a protocoll and her ship manifest if she migrate alone or together with her parents ?

Thank you so much for your awesome help , and it will be very much appricated .

    Hello Bjørn,
to find the marriage was easy on Ancestry. They married 17 Dec 1878 in Otter Tail, Minnesota, USA. Below the link to ancestry where you will find another link to the Minnesota Official Marriage System where you can order a copy of the marriage record. I could not find the record online.

I do not know how the Minnesota marriage records look like. But I know from other states that with a little luck the correct native town and the name of the parents are mentioned.

I could not find the 1840 baptizm in the Hannover churchbooks published on Archion. I guess that with "Hannover" was not meant the city but the kingdom. Normal procedure in the US. Same for his wife with "Pomerania". May be the marriage record can help to locate the native towns.

    Best regards
    Werner

          Hello Bjørn,
this is what I could find about her arrival in the US in the Minnesota census records on Ancestry:

census 1875: only John mentioned (John Hathusen)
census 1880: John and Louisa mentioned, oldest child 7 years old
          >>> was Louisa or John married before?
          census 1900: immigration John 1871 / Louise 1867
          census 1910: immigration John 1869 / Louise 1875
          census 1920: immigration John 1870 / Louise 1868
          census 1920: naturalization: John 1871 / Louise 1892
          census 1930: immigration John 1871 / Louise 1867 / both naturalized

Based on the before mentioned arrival dates for me this is the most likely date for John Holthusen (Feb. 1870):

I couldn't find an arrival for Louise Greschke (Greshke). May be I looked for a wrong name because she was possibly married before. Her marriage with John Holthusen was 1878. The census 1880 indicates that in the household lived 3 children, 2 of them where 7 and 4 years old. What does that tell us? Clarity can only be reached by getting the 1878 marriage license.

Because John and Louise were both naturalized as the 1920 census indicates it could be helpful to search for these documents. I could not find them in Otter Tail.

While searching Google I found an interesting page for Minnesota records. Maybe it is helpful for you:

One of the main goals for genealogists is finding marriage information about their ancestors. Over the past few decades, thanks to volunteers, librarians, and archivists, many indexes to marriage collections have been provided for free online. These searchable indexes provide specific marriage license, bond, and certificate information, and sometimes scanned images of the actual marriage […]
