I am hoping that someone might be able to help me search for additional family information for my ancestor. Due to the circumstances of his immigration my family has hit a dead end on research. One family member has been searching since 1960.

The information I have for him is From his Bible – translated from German

I, Philip Meisenheimer write this as a memorium how I was separated from my dear wife and children. The ship we boarded when coming to America was wrecked near NewFoundland, August 9, 1840 and I was the only member of my family who escaped death.

"The Florence" was the name of the ship he and his family was on and departed Rotterdam Germany on 6/30/1840. I have been unable to track down any immigration lists for the ship.

5. Peter born October 28 1838

I know he had at least one older brother but I do not have any names on his parents and siblings or his wifes family.

I believe at this point I need to search church records in Germany but I am not sure if my ancestor was Lutherine or catholic. Another branch of Meisenheimer I came across is Lutherine but I have not been able to link my side to theirs.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated by myself and my family.

Ich weiß, daß er mindestens einen älteren Bruder hatte, aber ich habe keine Namen seiner Eltern und Geschwister, auch nicht von der Familie seiner Frau.

Ich glaube, ich muß nun in den deutschen Kirchenbüchern suchen, aber ich weiß nicht, ob meine Vorfahren lutherisch oder katholisch waren.

Ein weiterer Zweig der Meisenheimer Familie ist lutherisch, aber ich habe bisher noch keinen Anschluß zu ihnen gefunden.

Ich bin über jede Hilfe dankbar!

I asked for you at the city archives if they have some documents between 1800 and 1835.
They do have a register of residents of Darmstadt, which starts 1810.
There are listed all adults who were registerd at Darmstad. Usually there are listet their parents and their children with birthday and birthplace, occupation, religion, nationality, spouse with parents and their origin place and adress.

Philip was born 1803, so it is possible you can find something about his parents, him and his family.

Due to the war the registers of the letters S and V-Z were burnd, but that is not important for you.

The register is filmed an can be viewed and copied in the reading romm of the "Haus der Geschichte".

But if you don't have the possibility to go there, they can make the research for you. But you have to pay for. Normaly 10 to 15 Euro for the search (it depends on how long they have to search for) and 0,50 Euro for each copy.

I think you should try this. If there is a registry of the family, you see their religion an then you could go to the church books.
