Help for my german roots

Sorry if it's not the right place to post my question.

Is there anyone who can help me finding more information about my german roots, my great-grandfather came from Germany, I don’t know when he exactly came to Denmark, but it must be about 1900-1905,
I can see in a Danish churchrecord, when he was married to my great-grandmother, that he was born 05-03-1882 his name was Ernst August Döring, the Danish churchrecord also says that he was born at marchkamper deich, neuenfelde, Hannover, there is also his parrents names, and that is where I’m lost cause I cant find any information about them, his father name recording the churchrecord was Christian Friedrich Döring and mother was Augusta Margretha Scherle, I’m not sure about the name cause, they often wrote them wrong, I will apriciate any information about my great-grandfathers parents or siblings if there is any.

Googling for "marchkamper deich, neuenfelde, Hannover" tells me that Marschkamper Deich is a street in Hamburg, specifically the part of town called Neuenfelde.

The wiki entry also explains why it says "Hannover" - it is in a rural area at the border to Niedersachsen. So today Neuenfelde is part of Hamburg, but up to 1937 it was part of the Prussian Kreis Jork. I bet it was part of the Kingdom of Hannover when your ancestor was born.

The reason you are not finding anything online - Germany has different laws compared to Denmark. Up to 2009 everything past 1874 was under a strict data protection law, allowing only direct descendants to get records from the local Standesamt.

Only since about 2010/2011 there have been movements to put birth, marriages and death records online, but there are only a few online so far.

I think the Standesamt records that you want are stored in Hamburg, but for this you better ask at the Hamburg subforum.

Ernst August Döring was born in the Standesamt Number 2, document number 3513.

Now you can write to Hamburger Staatsarchiv

for a copy of the birth document. Please note the number: "332-5 2031" This is the signature of the book, necessary for ordering the document.

I couldn't find the marriage back to 1876. At this year ends the online papers. May you visit Hamburg or ask in the Hamburg forum if someone could help you in Hamburg.

Just a few more things - note the many other people with the same surname. Some of them might be siblings. Consider ordering their birth records too if you can afford it.

Additionally note that the surname Döring is very very common in the area that is a bit more south. I would not be surprised if the parents of your Ernst August Döring came from other places and settled in Neuenfelde.

If Christian Friedrich Döring and Augusta Margretha Scherle were not born in Neuenfelde you either need to find their marriage certificate or their death certificates in order to have a chance to determine where they were born.

Since mum of 2 did not find their marriage in the Hamburg registers, sifting through the death registers of Hamburg for their names would be the next logical step.

It should be the same place, death records up to 1984 are public record. (Today's date minus 30 years.) So Staatsarchiv.

I just don't know whether the Hamburg Staatsarchiv has the death records from the Standesamt already. I know for example that Berlin is a bit behind in this regard.

Also, again you need to find them in the death register first, because you need the number to order the record. See what mum of 2 did with the birth record of your ancestor.

I hope somebody more knowledgeable about Hamburg comes to the rescue.

Sorry, but I think it is the wrong Ernst August Döring! He was born at Neuenfelde and in 1882 Neuenfelde wasn't part of Hamburg. So you can't find the birth certificate in the namelists for all civil registration offices of Hamburg, but in the namelist for the civil registration office of Neuenfelde. But those namelists are not yet at the state archive of Hamburg, but you can ask for information at the "Standesamt Harburg". You need the number of the birth certificate and they can also search for the number of the marriage of the parents. With this informations you are able to find the right numbers for ordering these documents online.

The namelist for death certificates Neuenfelde 1874-1975 you find at the state archive, but not online.
