    Family Mertin

    Hello,

I am looking for my ancestors from Silesia - can anyone help me?

My great grandfather was Johann Mertin (born 1883?) in Jamke / Heinrichshof, Schlesien. I believe his father was also called Johann.

He migrated to London, England and was married to an English woman in 1911. He returned home after the first world war and I believe he died in the 1970's in Braunschweig, Germany.

I would like to find anything about him or his family.

    Best wishes,

    Richard

    Hello Richard,

You can do a search for your greatgrandfather's marriage here

This might be his marriage in the 2nd quarter of 1911

    Mertin John Marylebone 1a 1231

The district Marylebone is an alternative name for St Marylebone and it spans the boundaries of the counties of Greater London and London

There are two matches, either one might be his wife:

    PETCH Jessie A. Marylebone 1a 1231
    Claydon Jane Marylebone 1a 1231

Perhaps you know the first name of his wife?

If you think this is the correct marriage date you can order the record directly from the General Registration Office UK
A cert costs £9.25 (half as much as you would pay for it at Ancestry, should you find it there)

    Cheers and

    Liebe Gruesse

      Hello Rieke,

thank you for your reply - I have already found his wife, my great grandmother and all the way up to today

Jessie Petch was his wife - my great grandmother.

But Johann Mertin and his ancestors are a mystery for us.. we would very much like to find out more about them (and us!)

      best wishes,

      Richard

        "Heinrichshof" in former Silesia

        Dear Richard,

At first I would like to express you a warm welcome to our community.

Please be kindly informed that there were in total four towns named "Heinrichshof" in former Prussian Silesia before 1945:

        Heinrichshof, Ratibor County
        Heinrichshof, Falkenberg County
        Heinrichshof, Schweidnitzcounty
        Vorwerk Heinrichshof, Oppeln County

Addendum: Jamke = Heinrichshof, Falkenberg County http://www.kartenmeister.com/preview...p?CitNum=16713

        Kind regards, Andreas

          Dear Richard,

The birth record of Johann Mertin from 1883 from the Civil Registry Office in Norok, that was in charge for Jamke = Jambke = Heinrichshof, Falkenberg county as well, is availible in the following Polish State Archive: http://www.opole.ap.gov.pl/pages/en/kontakt.html

Requests in English language are sufficient for receiving a copy of the birth record.

          Kind regards, Andreas

            Hello Richard,

In my eagerness to help I forgot to welcome you to the Forum; bad manners on my part
So here is a warm welcome to our crazy lot of genealogists

From your post it wasn't clear what information you already have so I wrongly assumed you were only beginning with your genealogy research.

            Good luck.
