What I do first is look up the name of the town in the book: Meyers Orts- und Verkehrs-Lexikon des Deutschen Reichs. 5. Auflage. 1912. This books gives you info on the town/city/village, including the relevant Standesamt and if there are any churches located there.

There is an internet site that's a good source if you want to determine the Standesamt, Kirchenspiel (the community parish), County name, Polish name, etc:

According to the two sources just mentioned, Striegau had its own Catholic Church.

So the next step would be to determine if the records still exist for the year 1870.

First you can check to see if a Polish Archive has them:

And you can also check to see if the Mormons have the records on microfilm:

Discover your family history. Explore the world’s largest collection of free family trees, genealogy records and resources.

If neither of them do, then maybe the Staatsarchiv in Leipzig has them. There are people active in this internet forum who have a list of that archive's inventory (Staatsarchiv Leipzig- Bestandsverzeichnis). You can ask them if they know if these records still exist.
