    Looking for Schneider

    Hi,
Totally new to this, I am looking for information about my 2nd great grandfather. All I have is his name, age at the time and a vague area of birth. How do I narrow this down?

    NAME: Adolph Albert Schneider
    YEAR BORN: 1858 or 1859
    AREA: Pillkallen Prussia Germany
    MOTHERS NAME: Minna Bartel
    FATHER: August Schneider

    Thanks

Hello and welcome to this forum!

Please help us help you. What exactly is the source of the information for Adolph Albert's parentage and age? Is this source online, if so, could we have a link to it? Also, what other information do you have of his later life (did he for example marry before emigrating, if so, where and to whom)?

Pillkallen was the seat both of a district (Kreis, analogous to an American county) and a parish within that district - the first thing to determine, on the basis of your records, would be whether the district, the parish, or the town is meant. If the parish, then the situation doesn't look good - churchbooks are available online only through 1819, though the Polish State Archive in Olsztyn apparently has some records through 1844 (the area was subject to severe fighting in both World Wars).

Also, if you aren't aware of it yet, the name "Schneider" is the German term for the profession of a tailor - so it is an extremely common name (like Taylor in English).

    Regards

The source is a marriage certificate that is from a Lutheran Church here is Queensland Australia.
He married Henrietta Wilhelmine Beyer (Beier) in 1887.
        Her details are:
BIRTH 05 JUN 1847 • Eichstaedtwalde, Pommern (Pommerania), Germany
DEATH 14 APR 1943 • Oakey, Queensland, Australia

He married and than disappeared before his son was born in 1888. Charles Albert or Albert Charles Schneider.

I have tried to find immigration records to Australia but have not found any. I did find a A Schneider come across from Hamburg to NSW on 19th of November as a sailor.
        Could this be him?
