    Fischerstrasse 22, Elbing

    Hello,

Looking for information regarding my father's family...
Il found an old picture of my mysterious grand grandmother, Amalia Dorn, whos was born (I don't know where) on December 10, 1863, and died in Switzerland in 1925.
On the picture, there is a mention saying "Elbing, Fischerstr.22". I did not know anything about Elbing before that...it has changed !
I would like to know if somebody could help me to discover whether she was living in Elbing at this time (she's between 23-30 on the picture), maybe with her first husband, Michael August Elgert. And who was living at Fischerstr. 22... was it the photograph ? Was it the Dorn Family ? The Elgert family ?
I found your website through Google, typing Fischerstrasse 22/Elbing...

Thank you in advance for your help.
I'm incapable to write in german but understand it.

    Hello Mireille,

Elbing is now called Elblag. There is a good page about Elbing :

The Fischerstr. was a street in the historical old town of Elbing, right side of the Nicolai-Church. You can find many adress-books of Elbing: http://forum.ahnenforschung.net/show...8&postcount=11

Fischerstr. 22 was owned by a family called Squar. There was a second flat in the house. In 1890 there lived a family called Schoenfeld., in 1887 Wittmann.

In 1887 and 1890 is no Elgert family mentioned in Elbing.
Dorn is a widow of a clock-maker Johanna Dorn mentioned. 1887 living at Wasserstr. 5 and 1890 at Brückstr. 27 . They are both in near to Fischerstr.

          Thank you too, Nancy.
I'm going to buy a huge pair of glasses to read what I guess about 2 Dorn families in the 1870 version. Or wait until my husband-who-knows-everything comes home and makes it readable.

Ralf, how do you know so much about this Fischerstrasse 22 ? Was there a photograph living at this place ? I'll try to scan and post this week the picture I have. It is strange as there is a printed signature of my grand grand mother "A. Dorn" and then "Elbing, Fischerstr. 22", both down the picture that represent her with a man who I guess was her first husband. Or fiancé, because Dorn was her maiden name. So that's why I was thinking that they could have lived at this place, what I see on the picture does not make me think of a photograph studio inscription (I have plenty of these).

I am very interested about her. She lived in Russia, had 2 daughters from 2 husbands, one of them my grandmother who never talked about her. She died in Switzerland, and I'm trying to know where and to get the death certificate.

Well... just to let you know a bit of the story. I really appreciate your two answers. Thank you.

          Regards
          Mireille

Mireille, i don`t know the house Fischerstr. 22 .I just wrote what is printed in the directories.
These directories are divided into two parts. In the first part you can find the family names. The second part are the street names. There you can find the house Fischerstr.22.

The owner is mentioned first, printed in bigger letters. In newer issues they get an (E) = Eigentümer.

            Regards
            Ralf

              Dear Mireille,

you don`t need a pair of glasses to read it. Make a double click with you mouse and the book site will be bigger.
