Diebolt Familie

Hallo, I search for my ancestor, Johann Diebolt / Diebold, geb. 18 Jul 1828. He was supposedly born in the area of Zabern/Saverne or Strasbourg, but I cannot find him when I look on this sitehttp://www.archivosgenbriand.com/index_english.html).

I have looked for many days through the records in different towns on that site, but have not found a birth or baptism record for Johann. There are many Diebolts in the area but I cannot find the right Johann.

Does anyone have any idea where to look next or how to find my ancestor? A death record in America says his parents were Joseph & Margaret Diebolt, which is not of any help.

Hi Jade,

the records of Saverne are online on this site (in fact you find here all the records of French department of Bas-Rhin, which is one part of region Alsace)

Check "J'accepte ces conditions" then click onto "Accéder à la version graphique". You can then enter the name of the town/village you are looking for, in your case Saverne.

I have ancestors there, too. Do you know all the villages in the district Zabern or in the district Strassburg? Destrict Zabern isn't just Zabern.

Here a list of all villages in the destrict Zabern:

No I do not have a list of the villages next to Strassburg. I also have not found anything about Johann yet, unfortunately. It is a very difficult search when I do not know where exactly to begin.
