We are drawing family trees for 2 families in French Guiana in order to illustrate a blog. Both of the family were part of the settlement plan in Kourou supervised by Turgot and Choiseul.
The VERNET family has 2 different branches:
Jean VERNET was a soldier from Maienz, born in 1936. He was married with Marguerite HUIDETOPHONE (spelling according to the act). He married again in Cayenne in 1765 with Marguerite THEATO or DEADO (spelling according to various acts) from Phalsbourg.
The second VERNET family was registered in 1765 as coming from a village named Kortwiller. I am unable to find the place. Ms Catherine Vernet born Marcklin (1722), and her six children, Joseph (1757), Jacob (1751), Jean (1749), Marie-Catherine (1754), Catherine (1760) and Elizabeth (1762) were originated from the same place.
The HORT family (or HORDE). Antoine Horth was 19 years old when he arrived in St Jean d'Angély in 1763. His father'surname was Georges or Georgius. Originally, he is declared as 'from Speyer'. But he could have declared the name as his origin because he was recruited as a settler there to go to Guiana. He married (or not, we don't have any evidence) Catherine Thomas, widow of THERGAUVRE (spelling from the act).
Could you help us to find the right spelling fort HUIDETOPHONE, THEATO, and THERGAUVRE linked to the presumed area.
