Maempel - Genealogy - Arnstadt and Oberpoerlitz

Hi, I'm trying to research further of my family history - Maempel.

So far I have found the baptism certificate (attached) of my ancestor Carl August Henry Maempel (1808- died in Malta 1888). He was Consul to Hamburg in Malta between 1852 and 1867).

    1. If anyone can translate the baptism certificate, it would be appreciated.

His father seems to be Christoph Fabian Maempel according to the baptism certificate and this website --> https://gedbas.genealogy.net/person/show/1279503500

    Christoph Fabian's Occupation:
    Rittergutspachter in Liebenstein
    2. -- Not sure what Rittergutspachter means. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

Both Christoph and his wife, Maria Johanne Christiane Stolberg seem to have died when he was a child. His grandfather Johann Benjamin Maempel, Owner of the Golden Henne.

    3. Would anyone have further information that they can share with me about these? The main question I have is - what happened to Carl August Henry Maempel in his childhood.

    Many thanks!
    John

    Hi John:

I read the baptismal entry as follows in English:

On 29 July [1808] 1 a.m. the noble estate (Rittergut) leaseholder (Pachter) Mr. Christoph Fabian Mämpel's wife [?] Johanne Christiane nee Stollberg of Nordhausen was delivered of a small boy, who received in baptism (which was delayed until 7 Aug.) the names Carl Heinrich August. Godparents were 1) Mr. Joh. Benjamin Mämpel innkeeper of Arnstadt, 2) Mr. Andreas Heinrich Stollberg, brewmaster and farmer (Oekonom) of Nordhausen, 3) Mrs. Katharina Magdalena Schulz nee Färstemann [?] of Nordhausen

A Rittergut is an estate held by the local squire (Ritter literally is a knight). A Pachter (today Pächter) is someone who holds a leasehold - in other words, Christoph Fabian had leased the estate from the squire and was operating it.

    Regards
