Help researching 2nd great grandfather - WILHELM LENTZ

    Hello again everyone!

My last post was about my great and 2nd great grandmother, Henrietta Agathe Fenske and Mathilde Lentz. I appreciate all the help and am still continuing to piece it together.

This post is about Agathes husband, Wilhelm Lentz. I will say as I did in my previous posts, any and all info from other sites like Ancestry, Family Search etc are likely my info or info I already know and have exhausted searching these sites as they have not been able to provide well enough accuracy. So I am here digging deeper and again am grateful for all the help so far!

My 2nd great grandfather was Wilhelm Lentz born April 4 1869 born in what his Canadian death record says, Poland and his parents born in Germany. He passed in Sept 10 1946 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada. He was married to my 2nd great grandmother and approx marriage year may have been 1889. Wilhelms 2nd wife was Emilie Greening I also have her death record and Wilhelm went on to have more children with her.

Wilhelms parents have yet to be confirmed aside from what many put in their trees on ancestry, no one has provided proof of this. Wilhelm is said to be Wilhelm Gustav Friedrich Lentz but I have nor see confirmation of this and his parents are said to be Karl Wilhelm Adolf Lentz (1835–1884), and mothert possibly Wilhelmine rosentreter but not and then I see a Marie Mierke but her birth year tends to be much older so I am sure thats not right.

Also, Wilhelm seems to have had 2 sisters that I know of, I am sure theres more and one married a man with the surname Rosentreter. I have just not made the connections of all this. The sisters names are Rosalie and Ausgustine possibly? Rosalie is said to have married Ludwig Rosentreter. I also seen a few times a half sibling but the dates do not exactly add up and I do not trust information from others trees on Ancestry.

If there is anything else I am able to provide to help me along please do not hesitate to ask!

So I am hoping someone can help me with this research to learn more of my 2nd great grandfather and provide any helpful suggestions, advice, links as well

Thank you again everyone for the help and kindness!

I am not quite sure what you are looking for. Without the place of birth, I don't see what else anyone could do besides running some searches on the websites that you have mentioned. Although it's probably better to have someone do it who knows what he/she is looking at and is able to make sense of the results (and can read it). Sometimes you need to piece together a lot of different information.

I apologize I was not too clear of my intention, I suppose a start would be confirming his name as well as confirming or finding out for sure Wilhelm's parents and siblings etc. And/or any advice and resources to help along the way to narrow it down

All I know is he was born in Poland in 1869. Also people seem to copy each others info on Ancestry without proof which can be frustrating. Many have put he was born in Skalay, Kavistnia, Germany but it appeared one person put this and many followed. One person said he was born in Zion bei Brätz, Brandenburg, Preußen. Sadly I do not have much to go on but am going to start again as best I can and appreciate any input along the way

Nobody can help you with this without knowing where he was born. You would need to find the entry in the parish register (or possibly the marriage certificate) to confirm anything. Then you can only run some searches on ancestry etc. hoping that you can find some clues.

I don't think he was born in Poland. He died 1946, after the war. I think he most likely was born in what used to be Germany and became Poland after the war. Since the town or city he was born in was now in Poland in 1946, they probably just wrote down "Poland" (e.g. Prussia, Silesia). As a matter of fact, that's where Brätz was/is.
You could check the parish registers of Zion (Brätz) and see if he was, in fact, born there.
I have no idea what Skalay, Kavistnia is supposed to be. Only one result pops up on google and I guess you have seen this one already (MyHeritage).

You might find some parish registers on FamilySearch. They do have Brätz and some other villages nearby. Can't find Zion, but that might have been recorded in the parish register of Brätz.

              Hi Sophie,

Do you have any information on how and when Wilhelm came to Canada? Did he immigrate directly or did he come to America via the United States? Couldn't his immigration data provide more information?
Maybe you could list all the confirmed dates here for a better overview?

Your second great grandmother was really called Mathilde Lentz or did she have a maiden name?

              Greetings

              Hans-Hermann
