I am new to this site and am looking for information on the Pohl family. My grandfather, Adolf Pohl, left Berestowice for Neche, North Dakota, USA on or about January 1926. Mother was Pauliny (Paulina, Pauline) Pohl. Gaurdians were Michael Kussmaul and Julianna (Pohl) Kussmaul. Another sister of Paulina would possibly be Marta Szulc (spelling from very old immigration documents). Would be interested on information of any of the above named.

Berestowice
Hello Randy,
Welcome to this forum.
When I search for "Berestowice in Volhynia region" in German language I find that this town was/is located nearby Kostopol. The name "Berestowice" is Polish spelling (as it was formerly located in Poland), but nowadays it is part of the Ukraine. So I think that the town you are searching for is today called Berestovets' in Kostopil's'kyi district, Oblast Riwne, Ukraine - see:
This is my suggestion, but maybe someone can confirm my idea.
Best regards, Andreas

Thank you Andreas.
Thank you Andreas. I am sure that you are correct. Half of the families in my home town of Neche, North Dakota, USA, are from this area of Berestovets, Alexandria, and Rivne of current day Ukraine. Depending on the year of birth they may claim different countries of birth (Russia, Poland, Germany, Ukraine), but all claim, region of Volhynia, ethnic German, and Evangelical Lutheran for religion. I am not sure how or when they arrived in this area. The search is getting slow due to the amount of years that have passed, many villages are similar in name and spelling. Verification of family connection can be difficult. I am sure that most, if not all, relatives and distant cousins have left this area for one reason or another. The last known communication between my Great Grandmother Paulina Pohl and Europe was in 1951 to Dresden and Berlin. Randy
