    Introducing myself

Hello, I was brought here on a search of my ancestors. The surname is Longfils (Lofy, Lofi, Lonfgi, Luffy and many others). I have traced my direct line back to Nicolas Longfils b. approximately 1650. He is found in Chassepierre, Belgium in at least 1672 when he marries and has seven children. I descend from their son Nicolas Longfils (b. 1694).

There are many family trees online that show Nicolas Longfils being the son of Joseph Longfils and Victoire Stercq. But, no one has been able to provide any proof of that. They have just gotten the information from other researchers trees. I would like to resolve this mystery at some point.

Thank you for allowing me to join this forum.

Thank you, Karen. I actually have been a librarian at our local Family History Center for close to 30 years. I have seen this reference to a Nicolas Longfils being the son of Joseph Longfils and Victoire Stercq. But, this Nicolas was born in 1851. The Nicolas I am looking for was born around 1650. Two hundred years earlier. I have wondered if someone mistook this for the one born around 1650 and eveyone is carrying it on in their trees.

        Hello Patricia,
        welcome here!
The churchbooks are available online after registration: https://genealogie.arch.be/results/
Put Chassepierre in the search field. As the baptisms begin 1663, marriages 1664 and funerals 1662, I see no chance to verify the dates; you can ask in the Benelux forum here for e.g.state archive, which might be a little chance.

        good luck

        Cornelia
