    Stargau/Stargard? Pomerania

    Hello,

Looking for some assistance interpreting a marriage record from 1876. The family was from Widlitz:

The husband was released from the military in 'Stargau' (image below). Anyone thing this is actually Stargard? If so, any suggestions for getting Prussian military records? (I understand they were mostly destroyed.) Thanks!

    Hi,

Prussian unit-level records do not exist any more and since he married only after leaving the military, military churchbooks as a surviving source are not helpful either. Unless he was involved in the Franco-Prussian War, I doubt he'd be mentioned in any unit history. Most likely, he just did his military service (conscription was a thing) and moved on. Prussians during those times had military passports, but unless it was handed down in the family, there will be no trace of him in the military, except for this one record.

    Kind regards,

        Hi,
here is the high resolution file:

        marriage in 1876
groom born in 1852 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61...9M-CSZT-KS4G-L), living in Jacobkau
        ...nice handwriting
the city should be Stargard => the "broken" d is very similar in Widlitz

        Best regards
