Hi
It is explained on this web page http://historische-berufe.de/chatouller/ A chatouller was a free farmer, who owned a chatoul-farm (German: Chatoul-Gut). A chatoul-farm was a farm, that was established on lands, which belonged to Prussian state forest. This land came from the state fund. The french derived word chatoulle (chatoul) meaned "fund" Geändert von Anna Sara Weingart (06.05.2021 um 16:55 Uhr) |

More precisely: This land came from the fund of the Prussian state forest. (German: Wertfond der Forsten)
The same matter as Chatouller, but other spelling, was Schatuller, or Schatullbauer: http://genwiki.genealogy.net/Schatullbauer Geändert von Anna Sara Weingart (06.05.2021 um 17:11 Uhr) |

Zitat:
The chatouller had to pay an interest rate. This money flowed into the fund of the Prussian state forest, and into the "cash casket" (German: Schatulle or Chatoulle) of the Prussian king. That is, why these forest farmers were named "chatouller". Geändert von Anna Sara Weingart (06.05.2021 um 17:53 Uhr) |
