Hello Annie,

it's a bit complicated to get the information, since his birth took place less than 110 years ago. The only way to obtain the name of the parents is by asking the "Standesamt" in Mainz. The Standesamt has an online service to ask for copies of the birth registration, but you have to be a direct descendant of the person.

I now have a copy of the Marriage Certificate of Josef Kapp to Patricia Philomena McDonald on the 2 April 1956 at St Winefride's Catholic Church, in Sandbach, Cheshire. His Father's name is given as Albert Johann Kapp (a Locomotive Engine Driver). Unfortunately, I am doing this research for a 'Friend', so I won't be able to access the Mainz Records, as suggested.

I found a locomotive engine driver Albert Kapp in Mannheim dir 1934, 1940 and 1955 ( in 1931 stoker ). Unfortunately, no dir for Mainz 1925 on-line.

Kapp was a common name in Marienborn and Hechtsheim, both suburbs of Mainz nowadays.

Dieburg is situated 35 miles east of Mainz.
A coincidence, but most likely not the father you are looking for.


Ancestry lists the marriage of an Albert Johann Kapp, son of Georg.
The marriage is said to have taken place in Hessia. If we knew the date and the place, we could find the entry via lagis.
I cannot say for sure the Anna Barbara Häusner was Albert Johann's wife.

Thank you Horst for all your help. Unfortunately, Josef KAPP was in the German Navy and was taken prisoner. Firstly in America, then he came to England. And yes, Sandbach is a lovely Market Town here in Cheshire.

Bei ancestry soll es auch einen Stammbaum R. Schmidt geben mit einer Maria Christine Schmitt, Ehefrau des Georg Kapp.
Vielleicht nennt dieser "Stammbaum" Albert Johann Kapp und Joseph Kapp.
