    Oehley in South Africa

I am a beginner genealogist researching my father's family who we believe emigrated from Germany to South Africa. I am sincerely hoping for assistance in tracing my great grandparents.

Hi and welcome to our Forum

You should open a new thread in the subforum "Auswanderung" or "Internationale Familienforschung". You should write all details you know of your great grandparents (names, places, dates). Maybe you can find the person who emigrated on a passenger list on findmypast or ancestry, but you must have an account there. Maybe you can also find something on familysearch, but it depends on which place they lived in South Africa. Many documents on familysearch are still not indexed, so you have to search in the catalogue and go from page to page through the collection.

Hi Thomas, yes I have seen that thread - I do have an extensive family tree which begins with Karl Hermann Oehley (my great grandfather) - the man who has drawn that up is the Robin Griffiths who posted the query in that thread on Ancestry - so he has also battled to find them!
        Many thanks
        Rosemary
