    Familie Nering aus Würzburg

    Greetings everyone,

I am not fluent in German, so please excuse me for writing in English. I am also hoping this is posted to the appropriate message board.

I am researching my ancestors from family Nering. Until recently, the research was limited to the Lower Austria, Moravia and Siebenbuergen, but surprisingly, I found out that the oldest known member of this line was born in Wuerzburg:

Nicolaus Nering, born ~1758, a book printer of Catholic confession. I'm absolutely new to genealogical research in Bavaria and would appreciate any piece of advice what to do next. Should I contact the catholic archive of Wuerzburg? Or are there perhaps any resources available online?

Or did anyone perhaps ever come across the family Nering in their research?
Thank you very much in advance.

    Kindest regards - Jakub

    Hello Jakub,

I separeted your post. I think that's better.

Unfortunately Würzburg (catholic) is not available online!
You have to go to the archive yourself or assign someone to do it for you. I am not sure whether the archive will do research directly.

But try it, they will tell you if not.

      Dear Christine,

thank you very much for your reply, and apologies for posting on the wrong message board.

I will follow your advice and ask the archive first, and then either travel there myself or ask someone to look on my behalf.

      Kindest regards,
      Jakub

        Hello Jakub,

you should write also to the GFF ( https://www.gf-franken.de/de/startseite.html ), which is the genealogical society in Franconia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franconia ), because Würzburg ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Würzburg ) belongs to Franconia which is a part of Bavaria.

And there is a special mailing list for Franconia ( https://list.genealogy.net/mm/listinfo/franken-l ), the email adress is mailto:franken-l@genealogy.net ( maintained by https://www.compgen.de/ ).

Do you know the GedBAS Database ( https://www.compgen.de/ )? You will find some people named Nering, but none from Würzburg.

Don't hesitate to ask any further questions!

        Kind regards,

        Konrad

          Hello Konrad,
and thank you for these suggestions. I will get in touch with GFF.

As for compgen.de, I was not aware of the Franconia mailing list, but thank to GedBAS I have been able to find Nicolaus Nering's son and grandson, who were both born in Moravia (Mährisch Neustadt/Uničov and Nikolsburg/Mikulov, respectively). The most useful resource to date, however, has been FamilySearch, because at least four generations of Nerings served in the Austro-Hungarian army.

I appreciate your help very much,
          with regards,
          Jakub
