What makes you think that Charley Kafra is identical to Edward K. Vogel? You wrote, Anna was born in December but according to the 1915 census she was born in April.

We always knew my father was not born Edward Karl Vogel. He hid is birth name from us. I found his birth name on a FAA document, as mentioned, just last year, 28 years after my father's passing. If it weren't for that federal document, I would have never been able to obtain his birth certificate.

I did understand that Carl Kaffra was the father of Edward K. and Hermann Wilhelm Vogel was the stepfather of Edward K.

Wasn't there a database which lists people who died in quarantine after arriving at Ellis Island? Did you search for a death certificat in New York, if he died short after arriving it should be online. Where did they live in New Jersey, did you look at newspapers of New York and New Jersey?

Correct. CARL KAFRA was the father of CHARLEY KAFRA (renamed EDWARD KARL VOGEL) after my grandmother married HERMANN VOGEL.

I did search for a death certificate for CARL KAFRA. None fit the time of his death, which would have been before she married Vogel (unable to locate a marriage certificate for them). If CARL KAFRA did in fact die, it would have been shortly after my father was born. By July of 1915, she had her first son by Hermann Vogel.
