    Hi Colin,

have you been able to retrieve the passenger lists or immigration records of this family? It would be good to ascertain whether Odilia might have travelled to the US with her children, of if they emigrated after she passed away.

I did have a look at the baptism records of the town of Eschdorf; you mentioned Angela being born May 1848, but according to the baptism records:

    27.04.1847 Catharina Axer
    06.05.1849 Angelica Axer [see here]

the dates don't quite align, but I reckon this is her grave in Evanstown, Cook County IL, † 12.01.1915 [here]

    thanks + kind regards,
    Peter

... then I had a look at the civil registration records from the commune of Heiderscheid on FamilySearch (as the church records from Eschdorf for the period 1797-1845 are not available on Matricula.eu):

based on the 10-year index tables (the index is in French, the records in German):
      04.05.1841 Jean Axer
      20.06.1843 Susanne
      26.03.1845 Anne Catherine +23.12.1847
      04.04.1847 Cathérine +08.10.1848
26.05.1849 Angélique [birth record here, born 25.05.1849]
      28.04.1852 Catherine 20.02.1856
29.09.1854 Odile [birth record here, born 28.09.1854]

according to the civil marriage record of Pierre Axer & Odile Claurens [here] on 22.07.1840 Pierre's father Barthelemey Axer passed away 17.05.1808 in Eschdorf [death record here: Barthelemy Axer, husband of Marie Rolling, age 39, day labourer, living in Esch, born in Maulbag, son of the late Jean Axer, and of Susanne Beck], and the groom Pierre Axer was born in 20 June 1802 in Esch sur Sur [birth record here] [Please note: the French Republican calendar is used so the date is 1 Messidor of year X]

Odile Claurens wasn't born 02.11.1811 but on 02.01.1811 [birth record here] as daughter of Jacques Claurens (farmer, age 42) & Susanne Wolff

      kind regards,
      Peter

        Wow you're good!

You found the correct person. There are Krummenachers that show up in Census records and as witnesses for the naturalization of Jean Axer.

It looks like Odelia Claurentz shows up on 1880 US Census. I'll start looking here to see if I can find her. I do not know the exact date they emigrated. My guess is 1872 or 1873.

You've given me a lot to work with. Thank You!

        Colin

I can't find a Maulbag, Luxembourg. Any ideas where that is?

          Danke,

            Hi Colin,

I did some more digging, because the marriage record from 1840 is utterly confusing (if not plainly incorrect)... This is what it says in German:

I did find the death record of Marguerithe Birker, she died 02.12.1837 age 35 wife of Pierre Axer. [here], so I assume, that the marriage with Odilia was actually his 2nd marriage...

Furthermore, I found death records for 2 of their children:
31.12.1837 Pierre, age 3 months [here]
07.05.1838 Marguerithe, age 2 years [here]

            and additionally 2 birth records:
            16.10.1832 Anne [here]
            26.11.1833 Dominicus [here]

and I found the census records from 1843 [here], where the family is listed with 4 children: D[omini]que 1834, Jean 1840, Angelique 1832 and Susanne 1843, and they live with the widow Marie Rolling.
and the census of 1867 with the widowed Odile Claurens living with 2 of her children: Odile & Susanne [here]

Maria Rolling dies on 28.10.1844 , age 80, born in Esch, wife of Bartholomi Axer in her 1st marriage, in second marriage of Jean Pierre Schaack [here]. Her 2nd marriage was on 21.03.1809 in Esch-sur-Sure [here]

Anne, the daughter from the 1st marriage, marries Jakob Brassel on 12.10.1859 in Rambrouch/Folschette [here]; she dies 05.12.1880 in Folschette [here]

Yesterday I already mentioned the birth of Pierre Axer 20.06.1802 in Esch. Before that there was already a Pierre born 31.12.1799 (10 Nivose year VIII) [here]
and from the baptism records of Esch-sur-Sure: 21.04.1805 Angela Axer [here] (I cannot find the civil birth records for year XIII, the index states "Angelique Axer, 1 Floréal year XIII")

Angela passed away age 77 on 11.08.1882 in Rambrouch/Folschette [here]

In the parish records of Eschdorf on 25.08.1795 the marriage record of:
Bartholomæus Axer filius legitimus defuncti Mathiæ Axer et Susannæ Themans conjugum ex Maulbach parochiæ de Hoverot regionis juliacensis majorennis & Maria Rolling filia legitima Theodori Rolling et Elizabethæ Deels conjugum ex Esch
and the baptism of son Theodorus Axer on 20.07.1796

So Bartholomeus is from Maulbach, close to Houverath, in present day North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
