Dear Mr. Brinkkoetter,

The donation records of the American Committee of the Franco-American Union, which handled the fundraising for the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty in New York City no longer exists. The Committee, a private group, was disbanded in 1902 and its records were presumably destroyed.

Some newspapers of the period did publish names of some donors. One of these, THE NEW YORK WORLD, led a special fundraising campaign in 1885 and promised to publish the names of each and every donor who sent in money to the WORLD. Other newspapers may have published of some donors as well. You can research this at www.newspapers.com.

The Library of Congress has some early editions of the WORLD, but I do not know if it will include pre-1900 editions.. Here is a link:
