Hello,
I found my 7xgreat grandfather Joannes Adam Welsing born ca. 1698 and died on 30/04/1775 in Volxheim, parish Wollstein. He was catholic. I can't find older documents, but his son was cognate with wife:

Date: 20/04/1762
Groom: Joannes Michael Welsing son of Joannes Adam Welsing & Anna Barbara Leis, born 31/10/1730
Bride: Maria Anna Antweiler daughter of Tobias Antweiler & Catharina, born 24/04/1738
Note: Wegen Blutsverwandtschaft 4. Grand wurde eine Dispenz erteilt
1. Is it posible find this document?
2. Where should I look for this document? Diocesan Archive in Mainz?
3. Maybe some of you have similar documents. How did you find it?

for some German bishoprics such as Cologne these documents do exist, for others they don't. Your best bet is to inquire at the Mainz archive.

agnatisch= männliche Blutsverwandter
kognatisch = weibliche Blutsverwandte

Just one (the same) Great-great-grandparent equal to both (groom and bride).
Does this mean groom's and bride's great grandparents are half-siblings instead of 1st grade cousines?



Important hint:
Wollstein - should be written as Woellstein (I think it was not possible because of your english keyboard to write Wöllstein...) because it could me misunderstood by other people. Because the region Wollstein could be misinterpreted as
- powiat Wolsztyn in Poland not Germany (Rhineland) or
- Wollstein (Hesse). This is not your intention, right?

so if you found cities or regions with
- ö use oe
- ä use ae

Hmm... They do genealogical research, but I don't get copy of the original documents.

At the moment the Catholic Church is using Roman civil law and this blood relation should be first cousins. Early canon law of the Catholic Church was different and their blood relation was really distant. Like you wrote they should be related by great grandparents. I hope. It'll be great for my research.
