Searching for my greatgrandmother who's last name was De Wals

Die Suche betrifft das Jahr oder den Zeitraum: 1880's - ?
    Genaue Orts-/Gebietseingrenzung: Gronau, Aachen, Berlin
    Konfession der gesuchten Person(en): Roman-Catholic

    Hello all,

I'm writing this in English because my German is a bit rusty.

Lately I've been searching for the identity of my greatgrandmother, the mother of the mother of my mother. My grandmother's name was Gertrud Josephina Louisa de Wals. She was born on march 2nd 1914 in Aachen, Deutschland. She died in 2001 in Enschede, the Netherlands. She got the 'de Wals' name from her mother because her mother wasn't married. I didn't know anything about her birth family, but I've managed to link her to a family de Wals from Avereest here in the Netherlands. I have an idea about who my grandmother`s mother was, but I'm not sure yet. I'm going to request my grandmother's personal record in the hopes of finding my greatgrandmother's name on there. I do know that she was born in the 1880's.

In the meantime I've been searching for 'de Wals' in online German archives, but I haven't had much luck yet. I know that my greatgrandmother spent a lot of time in Germany. I know for sure that she lived in Gronau and in Aachen, and probably also in Berlin.

I´m new to genealogy and don't know yet very well what the best avenues for finding a person are. So I was wondering if someone with more experience could help me search in the right direction.

Summing up: I'm looking for any information about my greatgrandmother, who had the surname ´de Wals´, and who definitely lived in Aachen in 1914.

    Thanks for reading!

    Hi,

all online-hits I got were from the Netherlands (wiewaswie.nl)

Thus, it makes sense to request the birth record from the Standesamt or the Stadtarchiv in Aken at first ( copy of original record with all side-notes).

    Regards,

    Thomas
