Hello,
I am looking into the history of my ancestor: Christian Waldeis.
He was born on 21st December 1838 in Grombach (Baden). In 1867 he "emigrated" to the UK where he married another German immigrant and started the English branch of the Waldeis family. When I checked this website: https://www.auswanderer-bw.de it appears my ancestor did not emigrate but was a convict who was expelled to North America: "Häftling, wurde aus dem Gefängnis nach Nordamerika abgeschoben"!
I would be grateful if anybody could help point me in the right direction to find out more information about his crime. The only information I have found comes from this link: http://longkiem.eu.interiowo.pl/reinhard-dietrich.html
The original post came from this site but has since been removed. It would seem that Christian Waldeis was in court or interrogated by the police on Friday 15th April 1859. I don't know where this took place but I would think Heidelberg would be the most likely place.
My apologies for posting this in English but my great-grandfather was the last of the English Waldeis to speak any German!
Julian
