2 x verheiratet
Zitat:
Auguste Luise Anna Glöde OO 21.2.1867 Doberan. Beide waren Schwestern. So früh Rentenbezieher? Woher bekam er sie? War er Berufsinvalide? Liebe Grüße, Gabi |

I came across the Challenors when researching the history of a house in England. I think:
William Bowen Challenor was the younger brother of Bromley Challenor 1821-1886. Bromley Challenor became a successful solicitor in Abingdon, Oxfordshire and had many children. In addition to Bromley and William Bowen in this generation there were three sisters, Mary Challenor, born 11.9.1822, Jane Challenor, born 1823 Elizabeth Charlotte Challenor, 1826 - 1886 William Bowen Challenor, as we know, went to Germany. Their parents were Wm B Challoner and MaryAnn Hildyard (some suggest Mary Marchant). Wm B Challoner was a captain, lived in Teddington and died in 1836. Wm B Challenor's parents were Thomas Challenor and Ann Watts. After the death of Thomas Challenor, the 1841 census lists, living in the house at 11 St Johns Grove Richmond: Mary Challenor - head of the household - age 44 (so born c 1797) i.e the widow of Wm B. Jane Challenor - daughter - 17 (so born c1824) William Challenor -son - 16 (so born c 1825) I think this is your William Bowen. At this point in 1841 the two other Challenor sisters are not living at home, but listed in Lady Montfort's household as Mary Challinor and Elizabeth Challinor. Here is where it gets interesting. Lady Montfort was born Elizabeth (Betty)Watts of Islington. She married Henry Bromley, Lord Montfort, 3rd Baron of Horseheath b 14.5.1773. My theory is that she was the sister of Ann Watts (their grandmother), making her the aunt of Wm B and the great aunt of Bromley, William Bowen, Mary, Jane and Elizabeth Charlotte. Wm B is named in a series of land deals that Lord and Lady Montfort made from 1811 onwards. By the time Bromley Challenor was born in 1821, it would have been clear that Lord and Lady Montfort were not going to have children.Lord Bromley did not have any brothers or sisters and seems to have fallen out with his cousins in a long law suit Montfort v Cadogan which dragged through the courts 1808-1816. Therefore I think that Bromley was named after his great uncle Henry Bromley - possibly in anticipating of inheriting. In the event Lady Montfort died in 1847, and Bromley Challoner arranged the sale of her estate in 1853. I will be checking papers in the London Metropolitan Archives in the next month or two, and will post any updates I find. In the meantime - do you have anything to confirm that Ann Watts and Betty Watts were sisters? |
