    Hello uroxen,

do you have any more information on Carl Gottfried? "Vo(i)gt" is a quite frequent German surname...
As you know he died in Denmark in 1819 - do you know where exactly he died? You could try getting a certificate of death from the Danish office then which definitely encloses more info.

    All the best wishes
    -Jens

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hello again uroxen,

there we go... "Soldat" means soldier - you mentioned he was a soldier in your first posting already.

Also, he was an apprentice to a mason: "Maurergeselle" and "Maurergefall" which is to be read as "Maurergesell" (I assume you deciphered this from a German handwriting).

His son Gottfried Emanuel was born on Febr. 26th (year?) and christened on March 11th in St. Petri Church.
His daughter was buried May, 8th (year?) "des Maurergesellen C.G. Vogt seine Tochter" = literally: "the mason-apprentice's his daughter". She died of an apoplexia/stroke in the age of 4 weeks.

Carl Gottfried Vogt died in October 1819 in Frederiks Hospital in Copenhagen of interior weakness. He was buried on Oct, 20th (place?).

You know now, Carl Gottfried Voigt died in Copenhagen in October 1819. The best way to get further information is certainly writing to the rectories of Copenhagen and ask whether they could look up the entry of death in their books; also the entry of marriage of March, 4th 1803 would be helpful - Carl Gottfried's parents will possibly be named.
Another (maybe cheaper and easier) way is getting to read the Mormon's microfilmed (church) books; try to find out where there is the next Mormon-Center where you can order such films.

    ---> The Mormons do have two entries of marriage for Carl Gottfried Voigt on their page;
    one for Karen Hansen

and the other one for Karen Nielsdr

Btw: Don't pay attention on the different spellings "Voigt" and "Vogt". It's still the same name, and for names there are no spelling rules.

I hope you will find out more info soon, keep us informed about it!

All the best for your researches
    -Jens

    Hello Jens

    His daughter was born 1805

    He was a Maurergesel 1804 - 1819.
He was buried St. Petri Church, a German Church.

I have read church books St. Petri Church, Garnison and Frederiks Hospital all in Copenhagen.

And no where is a date or place where hi was born or exakt date.

    Uroxen.

    That's what I thought, too.

Ah, I see - this is the only source that tells you he might have been German, right?

This indeed is interesting - at least the entry of wedding should usually say where the couple was from.
Anyways - is there a possibility to contact a Danish military archive or something like that?! I guess they will be able to help you with this rather difficult file.

Do you have any idea, how old Carl was when he died, so that we could figure out at least an approximate birth year?! Do you also know his confession?
I'll try to see if I can find out some more info, too...

    All the best

    RE: Carl Gottfried Voigt

Herzl. Grüße Lise

        Hey uroxen,

Lise asked whether you might be able to find out some more info on Carl Gottfried Voigt by his certificate of death or - as he presumably lived in Denmark - by a naturalization certificate or anything equal.

Is there a possiblity for you to contact the Danish military archive by e-Mail or even snail mail? They should have some postal address for people who cannot go there themselves, shouldn't they?

As he was a soldier: Maybe you can get information also from the military garnison, he was in. At least they should have a certificate with a date of admittance, or anything like that which might include his place of origin.

I think, only the military archive might be able to help you out with this.
Certainly you might find more on the internet, alas I cannot understand Danish.
You might also find info here:

                Hello Uroxen,

I see you are at a dead end here... my suggestion would be to try something at the German end. I know that is difficult as most pages here are in German only. But on the other hand, most Germans would be able to understand some English. There is for example the German Genealogy Server www.genealogy.net with FOKO. That means FOrscher KOntakte = resercher contacts. On the FOKO pages you can do a search with time restriction, http://foko.genealogy.net/

I have done that with Voigt 1750 to 1819, there are 10 results, one of them is Voigt 1759 to 1795. That could be the birth date and one other event like previous marriage or draft to the army. Unfortunately, there are no first names given in the results. The next step would be to contact the researcher who has that particular Voigt in his AL. To get his e-mail address you are required to register.

If you need help with the registration, or, if the person you contact has no English, I can help you.

You could also search the database GedBas http://gedbas.genealogy.net/ That is a place where researchers publish their ancestor files/lists. There is one result for Carl Gottfried Voigt, 16 results for Gottfried Voigt and 36 for Carl Voigt. On the pages the contact address of the researcher is given. Unfortunately, often the data has been there for ages, e-mail addresses are outdated and one gets no answer when contacting them. But maybe you are lucky. Again, if you need help, just shout.

I wish you the best of luck!

                  Ordonnancehuse. Carl Gottfried Voigt.

In Deutschland was a lot of Dänisch Ordonnancehuse from the arme. The Ordonnancehuse rekruterade men from Deutschland to the Dänisch arme.

In following citys was a Ordonnancehuse : Altona, Lubeck, Hamburg, Bremen, Muhlhausen, Frankfurt, Hildburghausen, Worms, Nurnberg, Regensburg, Nördlingen and Ulm.

So I think that the person i am looking for is from some of this places.
I wood be happy if someone can look around and maybe find him.

                            Hello Uroxen,

Hina from Germany, who lives now in Denmark, searched for you in the online Danish Statens Arkiver. Carl Gottfried married on Feb. 6th 1803 and the marriage was registred in the churchbook in Kopenhague on March 4th. 1803. It isn't sure that he married in K. The church in K. registred all marriages of members of the Danish army, because the church was the official registration office.
Carl wasn't member of the Danish Church, so he is only registred with his name. If you were a member of the Danish Church the church registred also the age, place of birth, parents etc.
The books with all the Danish soldiers aren't online and you can only see them in K. Maybe you could put your question in a danish genealogical forum. I've asked Hina if she knows a site.

                            Regards,

                            Freddy
