    Skubinowa/Skubinowna Familie

[Google translation]

Is Skubinowa/Skubinowna a Russian name? I have found baptism records from Ostpreussen and wonder if this familie is related to my Skubinna ancestors from Kreis Goldap? Thanks for any opinions or information.

    Hi Hicklin,
In many slavonic languages, including Russian and Polish, Skubin is the original name for a male, Skubinowa is for a married (or elderly) female and Skubinowna for a girl. In the polish database Geneszukacz, the name shows up in the villages of Kramnik, in the administrative district of Gmina Dubeninki, within Gołdap County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia and in Stolupianka, Stołupianka is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Wiżajny, within Suwałki County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland, close to the border with Lithuania.
The Goldap area was part of East Prusia (Ostpreussen). I would think that it is very likely that the name Skubinna was also derived from the original name Skubin (sounds like a female version of Skubin)
